  • Congratulations on Your Upcoming Wedding!

We want your experience with chauffeured transportation to be a memorable one. We want you and your loved ones to experience the style and elegance our industry provides and we want YOUR day to be perfect in every way. Here are some tips:

    1. Find a limousine professional in your community. Our member companies are duly licensed in the city they are headquartered in and we have verified that they are insured properly.

    2. Determine the number of people you are transporting. Limousine companies typically quote the number of permitted passengers in their vehicles based on guidelines from the manufacturer. Typically, the manufacturer quotes a gross weight on the vehicle (FMVSS requirements) and a number of passengers based on 150 pounds per passenger. Unless you have extremely thin men in your party, booking the maximum number of people in the limousine will be extremely uncomfortable. For example, a 6-passenger limousine is normally stretched between 65 and 70 inches. The vehicle is cut in half, stretched 65-70 inches then finished by the manufacturer. This is comfortable for 4 adults. So lesson 1 is do NOT book the limousine to its maximum capacity, rent a larger limousine or rent more than 1 limousine. Some limousine companies also have stretched SUV's or 28 passenger mini-coaches. Never underestimate how warm and uncomfortable formal clothing is and how much worse this is exacerbated by close quarters.

    3. Many Limousine operators use their colleagues to handle multi-vehicle charters. Ask your contact if another company will be working with them on your wedding day. Do your same due diligence on the other company. If you are not satisfied with the professionalism of the farmout company, go to an operator who can cover the whole wedding charter.

    4. Timing: Weddings do not normally go off with military precision. Rent the limousine for at least an extra hour beyond your schedule. Have the limousine come 15-30 minutes early to allow extra time for pictures. Receiving lines take 25 minutes per 100 people and photographers take much more time then you probably figure. It is extremely stressful on everyone if you have left inadequate time for your charter.

    5. Limousine Operators will often do more than 1 wedding in a day. Do not assume you can add time on your wedding day. Spend a few dollars more so your limousine is guaranteed on time and is not racing away at the conclusion of your trip.

    6. Visit the Limousine operator you are renting from. Ask for references. Insist on a written contract within 1 week of leaving your deposit. Consider using a major credit card if you are unfamiliar with the company you have chosen.

    7. As much as possible, keep alcohol out of the limousine. As a veteran of more than 1000 weddings, amateur drinkers, plus excitement and formal clothing is a recipe for disaster.

    8. Consider hiring a van or a full sized sedan to stay at the reception as a "designated driver."

    9. A chauffeur should be tipped between 15 and 20 percent of the total charge. ALL chauffeurs prefer a cash gratuity. If the chauffeur has treated you well, tip him/her handsomely and be sure to call the owner. If the chauffeur has NOT delivered good service, inform the owner as well.

    10. Breakdown: Limousines are machines. They unfortunately get flat tires and hoses and seals rip like any other vehicle. Unless you rent a "backup vehicle", most companies will have to scramble to transport you should there be a problem. Ask your limousine professional what system he/she has in the event of a problem.

Hiring a Great Limousine Service for Your Prom

Limousine Service is an absolute necessity for the Senior Prom. An unfamiliar route coupled with a crew of excited teenagers clearly makes hiring chauffeured transportation the best choice for your special night.

Just as “Prom Night” is an important milestone for teenagers, it is also an important evening for the owners of Limousine companies. These dozen or so evenings are among the most important for the company. Often the company’s full fleet is out on the road. So, from your first contact, make sure you are treated politely and professionally.

Here are a few things to consider when hiring a limousine service for the Prom.

    1. Ask your friends or family for a referral. The starting point for all personal services should be recommendations from friends or family. If they received courteous service from a polite chauffeur in a clean attractive vehicle then by all means, call for a reservation today!

    2. Get a contract and have the make/model/year of vehicle stated by the Limousine Company. Good companies will furnish a clean, quality vehicle every time. But many times a bad limousine company will play “bait and switch.”

    3. Make sure the Limousine Company has a clear cancellation policy. Young people tend to change their mind on the subject of Prom dates. Last minute cancellations are a fact of life in the limousine business but company policies vary. Some companies will offer full or partial refunds depending on the date of cancellation. Consider this policy before you rent.

    4. Do not be blinded by the vehicle alone. Some very bad Limousine companies have some pretty impressive vehicles. But beyond the flash should be substance. Make sure there is a seat belt for every passenger. Check to see if the company is a member of the National Limousine Association.

    5. Check with the Better Business Bureau and Public Utility Commission for Complaints: Even great companies will occasionally be involved in a dispute but bad companies will often display a pattern of behavior that should make you stay away.

    6. Do not book a limousine solely based on price. It is expensive to run a quality Limousine service. Insurance is up 40 percent, gas is over $2 per gallon in many areas and workers comp is a nightmare. The lowest quote you receive for Limousine Service often comes from a company that cuts corners. “You get what you pay for” certainly applies to renting a limousine.

    7. Do not agree to pay more than a 50 percent deposit. Good companies work with the customer. A 25 percent deposit and full payment prior to the event are standard.

    8. Pay your deposit and balance with a credit card if possible. Credit cards provide maximum protection for the consumer. If the Limousine is late, dirty or not the vehicle you ordered, you will be protected.

    9. Make sure the Limousine Company is not overbooked. The standard in the Limousine industry is that a chauffeur should be on-site 15 minutes before scheduled. Do not book the vehicle if you cannot be picked up at your designated time. Make sure you allow extra time on both ends of your trip. You do not want the aggravation of a late pickup.

    10. Make certain the Limousine is dedicated to you for the entire evening. Bad limousine companies will double book vehicles. Make sure your vehicle is not going to the Airport while you are cutting the rug inside the Prom.
